OpenOffice.org – Novell Edition is available today, with an updated version on the horizon. If you want, you can actually give the current version a try. For those of you who are users today, I applaud you. For those who are not, try it – it’ll surprise you how powerful it actually is. For those using the community release of OpenOffice.org and find some features lacking, try the Novell Edition! For those of you considering Office 2007, read this. For those who aren’t even considering it, can you please send me some of that extra cash you’ve apparently got lying around?
I could just cut and paste my colleague’s Cool Blog post, but where’s the fun in that? Better yet, check out Reverend Ted’s blog post which explains the following:
- Why a Novell edition of OpenOffice.org?
- What are some of the key features in the Novell Edition? (also look here)
- Why a Windows edition?
- How can you get it?
The current version of OOo is available as part of the Novell Open Workgroup Suite and as part of SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop. We plan to include the updated version in SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 Service Pack 1, which is right around the corner!
(Updated 4/12/2007): Corrections made to clarify facts about which versions are available when.

Kevin:
The Windows version for download is 2.0.4. SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP1 will include version 2.1. That’s not released yet for Windows, so the Windows version is the same as on SLED10, with no need for the SP.
