I recently visited with the Novell users group at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and gave a presentation on virtualization.  There were about 20 or so attendees and their experience level ranged from VMware user to never having seen virtualization.  Over the 90 minute presentation, I highlighted the Xen open source project, although the first half of the discussion was primarily about virtualization in general.  We concluded with a short demo of Xen virtualization running on SLES 10 with the following virtual machines on my laptop:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10  (paravirtualization)
  • Windows Vista Business  (full virtualization)
  • Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition   (full virtualization)

The feedback I received was very positive, and there seemed to be a lot of interest in virtualization technology and the possibilities for the future.  I look forward to doing more of these events, so let us know if you’d be interested in similar events!
